Power Women, Power Tools, Power Lunch

Habitat for Humanity of Martin County hosted a special invitation only luncheon to raise money for WOMEN BUILD at Willoughby Golf Club in Stuart on October 23, with special guest speaker WPTV-NBC’s Laurel Sauer. WOMEN BUILD, sponsored by Lowe’s, is a Habitat for Humanity International program that encourages women and girls to have fun and make a difference by building homes and communities.

Plans are underway for a home to be built in Indiantown beginning January 2008. The family to benefit from the home is Patricia Malone, a single mother with a 13 year old daughter. Funds raised at the Power Lunch were sufficient to clear the lot, pour the pad, and erect the shell of Patricia Malone’s home.

Lowe’s is the national sponsor of the Women Build program, and will host how-to clinics at their store located at 3620 SE Federal Highway in Stuart on November 3 and December 1 at 9am. Women are encouraged to attend these clinics which will give them an advantage when construction begins.

WOMEN BUILD is looking for area women volunteers, for on-site construction, various committees, and financial support. For further information, individuals can contact Habitat for Humanity of Martin County at 772-545-9225. “Martin County has a wealth of hard working, enterprising women and girls we look forward to partnering with on this new project.” said Ebonie Reid, Project Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity of Martin County.

Habitat for Humanity of Martin County (Habitat Martin) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization that extends the opportunity to purchase simple, decent, affordable homes to local families who would not otherwise have that chance. Three key resources are necessary in order to make homeownership a reality for Habitat partner families: funds, volunteers and advocacy.
