HOBE SOUND, Fla., Dec. 10, 2009 – Never underestimate the power of a woman – especially a group of power women with power tools.

For the third year, the power women (and power men) of Martin County showed their enthusiastic support of Habitat for Humanity of Martin County’s Women Build program. More than 125 people attended the 2009-10 Women Build Kickoff Event on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Harry and the Natives restaurant in Hobe Sound.

 

The 2009-10 Women Build kickoff event was sponsored by Natives Helping Natives and The Pine School Habitat Campus Chapter. Special recognition was given to George Mahr, Wally Lewis and the team of Hobe Sound volunteers who have supported Habitat through the years by working on 11 of the 18 Habitat homes in the Banner Lake community of Hobe Sound.

 

Construction of the 2009-10 Women Build home, located on Eucalyptus Way in Banner Lake, is already underway and is sponsored by Gulfstream Business Bank. Amanda Gonzalez, 23, and her two children, 5-year-old Amya, and 3-year-old Alijah, are the deserving recipients of the home. Gonzalez will contribute at least 300 hours of “sweat equity” throughout the construction of her home, with help from the Women Build volunteers and Habitat for Humanity, which will provide the family with a 30-year interest-free mortgage.

 

“Right now, I’m in the process of getting my Habitat homeowner classes completed as my home is in the beginning stages of being built,” said Gonzalez. “I’m so excited to have been chosen for the annual Habitat Women Build home and I’m so grateful that all these wonderful people are here for me.”
