MARTIN HABITAT TO HOST TRIVIA CHALLENGE AT WILLOUGHBY GOLF CLUB

Stuart, Florida--On November 3, 2008 Habitat for Humanity of Martin County will host it’s first annual Trivia Challenge fundraiser at Willoughby Golf Club in Stuart.  On the Treasure Coast, golf and yacht communities incorporate trivia play as part of clubhouse activities during season, and everyone takes this moderated brain buster very seriously.

Executive Director, Michele Reilly decided this would be a great opportunity for club members, individuals and teams of 6-10 players to get together for a good time, all while advocating on behalf of Habitat for Humanity.  “We wanted to do something different than the usual ball or auction.  We knew that the competitive spirit between Clubs would contribute to the success of the event, “ says Michele.

Evening sponsors include; The Allegro, Fenton Lang Burner & Associates, Mehlich, Roegiers, Goldin & Co.  and Friends of Habitat include Tri-County Golf Cars and Baer’s Furniture who are providing prize money ranging $2000 for first place, $1000 for second place and $500 for third place.

This is an evening open to the public and seating is limited.  For $125 per person each guest can enjoy cocktails at 6pm followed by dinner and trivia.  Players who are up to the challenge and are well versed in areas of politics, history, and pop culture should reserve a table today.  Michele says, “A little bit of knowledge and a lot of luck go a long way in this game!  Everyone has the potential to be a winner.”

All proceeds from the evening will benefit Martin County  Habitat for Humanity.  Habitat is a nonprofit organization that builds partnerships with volunteers, families, and the community to transform lives and revitalize neighborhoods by enabling families in need to own an affordable home. Habitat is currently one of the only providers of homeownership opportunities to working families at 25%-50% median family income (approximately $14,000 - $34,000 for a family of four).  Habitat for Humanity has a unique organizational philosophy that maximizes the transformative effects of building and buying a home in Martin County.

Homeownership through Habitat is a ‘hand up’ not a ‘hand out’. Completed homes are sold to pre-selected families who are required to complete 300 sweat equity/volunteer hours and pay an affordable, no-interest mortgage back to Martin County Habitat for Humanity giving them a profound sense of ownership. All Habitat homes are built by community volunteers, keeping costs low.  To date over 76 homes have been built in Martin County with Habitat’s efforts.
