Habitat for Humanity of Martin County is hosting a special invitation only luncheon to raise money for WOMEN BUILD on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 11:30am at Willoughby Golf Club in Stuart with special guest WPTV-NBC's Laurel Sauer. WOMEN BUILD, sponsored by Lowe's, is a Habitat for Humanity International program that encourages women and girls to have fun and make a difference by building homes and communities.

Oprah Winfrey, Maria Shriver, Faith Hill, First Lady Laura Bush and Senator Hillary Clinton have joined Habitat for Humanity's efforts to build safe housing where children can flourish.

Plans are underway for a home to be built in Indiantown beginning November 2007. The family to benefit from the home is a single mother with a 13 year old daughter. The fundraising Power Lunch will raise the minimum $60,000 needed to begin construction.

WOMEN BUILD is looking for area women volunteers, for on-site construction, various committees, and financial support. For further information, individuals can contact Habitat for Humanity of Martin County at 772-545-9225. “We currently have four homes under construction and have completed eleven new homes this year,” said Ebonie Reid, Project Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity of Martin County, Inc. “Martin County has a wealth of hard working, enterprising women and girls we look forward to partnering with on this new project. Many women don't think they're qualified to help because they don't have any construction skills. We do need them and we'll train them.”

Habitat for Humanity of Martin County (Habitat Martin) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization that extends the opportunity to purchase simple, decent, affordable homes to local families who would not otherwise have that chance. Three key resources are necessary in order to make homeownership a reality for Habitat partner families: funds, volunteers and advocacy.

Lowe's is the national sponsor of the Women Build program. In 2006 and 2007, Lowe's was the sponsor of First Families Building Homes Across America, challenging women governors, state's first ladies and women leaders from all levels of government to make a highly visible commitment to the eradication of poverty housing in their home communities.
